In this volume we see how Daniel becomes increasingly disturbed to discover that, notwithstanding the prospect of God’s people to the land, the foreseeable future for them is grim. Indeed, the worst is yet to come. Daniel reels as he anticipates an unprecedented assault by blasphemous anti-God rule, bringing unprecedented suffering for God’s people. Yet, there is light at the end of the tunnel as is indicated, for example, by the magnificent vision of “the one like a son of man” (Dan 7) and the prospect of resurrection (Dan 12).
