In the Sutra on the Contemplation of Buddha Amitayus King Bimbisara’s chief consort is herself imprisoned by Bimbisara’s malicious usurping son. In a state of depression and despair she prays to the Buddha. Though well out of earshot he instantly hears her request to send Mahamaudgalyayana and Ananda to her. Indeed, the Buddha himself also instantly translates himself from his location on Vulture Peak to her prison cell in the palace.
She tells the Buddha she is sick of living in a world of suffering and asks the Buddha to show her a world in which there is no suffering, asking that she might be reborn into such a world. The Buddha answers her prayer enabling her simultaneously to see all Buddha lands, innumerable as they are.
